After hearing about Tanzania from some friends, it quickly jumped to the top of my list in 2022. It would be the perfect mix of adventure (camping safari in the Serengeti), and relaxation (a week in Zanzibar). I booked the safari with the same group (Intrepid Travel) that I had used in Kruger National Park on my South Africa trip five years earlier, and received recommendations on resorts in Zanzibar from a friend who had spent months there in the pandemic.
A storm caused my flight to be cancelled and by the time I got on a replacement flight, I barely made it on time to the meeting point of the safari in Nairobi, Kenya. So much for the day I had planned to explore Nairobi!
